Hello everyone.

Looks like it is time for an end of year update!

Following the previous summer update, I am most pleased to report that all of the assets for the game's introduction have now been completed! Prince Alexander's animations are finished, and will be implemented soon to complete the introductory sequence (we may release a teaser showing the complete intro once we are finished setting it up - stay tuned for that!) All of the major animations for Rosella's tasks have been completed, which is significant - her being the main character and all...

We have also been focusing on completing any missing animations in the game, while starting on the outro sequences of the game to get the game closer to completion. We have completed portions of the outro - only the Daventry scenes remain and some other minor anims, and we are focusing on completing those soon as well!

We thank you all, for your patience, as we continue working to complete this game in Karen's honor! It is even closer to completion now, than it was before. Stay tuned - we may even post a teaser video once we have completed all of the gameplay anims and endings, to announce the game's release date.

Happy Holidays, everyone!

Hey everybody, it's me again, here to assure you all once again, that while our progress is still going slower than we'd prefer, it is still going.

To go into more specifics...

The game's introduction is nearly complete! Luckily, all we are missing at the moment are the animations for Prince Alexander, and those will be completed very soon. In due time, the entire intro will be finished and implemented.

The outro animations are next on our priority list, after we fill in the missing game animations. Luckily, most the animations regarding Rosella's tasks are all complete, we are currently filling in any that might be missing as we are able to.

We have a new title screen completely set up in the current game build, along with a new GUI!

Lolotte's animations are almost all completed, and she now has great portraits to accompany her lines in the game!

There are some scenes in the game that we wanted to add a little extra touch to, such as the mummy scenes. We have completed some scenes to address that, and they will soon be completely set up in the game, once we get audio and SFX added to it. There are some additional ones, but we want to avoid any spoilers!

Most of the assets for all the major tasks are done, but need a bit of fine tuning.

Aside from all that, we've gotten a few good cutscenes made, involving some events of the game's climax. They're a bit spoilery though, so... yeah.

We also had a bit of trouble getting some things implemented lately, but we've made contact with a new potential scripter, who is currently helping us in that regard.

I'm sure there are other things I've missed, but I'll be sure to update this post if and when I'm told of any. I know this isn't as good as a new trailer or any other kind of visual update, but... maybe next time, I'll see if I can provide one of those. Until then, I hope you'll continue to have faith in our project!

Farewell for now!

I hope you've all had as great a summer as Genesta has.

I am here now, to inform you that we have made significant progress since my last winter post. As of my writing this, nearly everything that was needed for the actual gameplay section of the game has been completed and inserted into the game. We’ve also managed to get the introduction nearly completed and some assets for the endings done as well. There are some minor animations involving some of the bad guys in Tamir, that still need to be done, as well as a few talking character portraits, but we believe they’ll be completed before this year is finished.

While I’m on the subject of said missing animations, I feel as though I should give potential players a bit of a heads up. We’re going to be adding a bit of an extra challenge to the scene in which Rosella finds herself sneaking through Lolotte’s castle, as Karen’s design made it impossible for Rosella to fall from the stairs to her death. (I can hear many of you sighing with relief already. ) So, for that reason, we’re going to be making it a little bit more difficult to avoid detection by the goons. (Although, arguably, you may actually find it a significantly easier task in our version, than in Roberta’s.) So yeah, that’s one of the things that still needs to be worked on, but it shouldn’t take much longer.

Anyway, since its been… quite a long time since the release of our demo, I wanted to assure you all once again, that the project is still in the works and is nearing completion.

We’re almost there, I promise!

I'm a little embarrassed to admit this, but I like Barbie animated movies. There is Barbie Island Princess, where the heroine is named Rosella. In the beginning of the movie, her name is Ro. She is shipwrecked on the island by a fierce storm as a little girl, and the animals, a red panda named Sagi, and a peacock 'prince', Azul, take care of her and raise her. So she lives and grows up on the island. When she is a young woman, a ship arrives carrying Prince Antonio and the royal scientist and Ro saves them from crocodiles. She thinks her name is Ro because of the chest washed up on shore with her as a child, it has her name on it, but only the first two letters, the rest of her name is scratched out by rough conditions. She goes with the prince back to civilization to his kingdom. Ro falls in love with Prince Antonio and he loves her too, but his father King Peter wants him to marry a proper princess. I'm not telling anymore, don't want to spoil it.

Hi, I am new. I am very glad to find this place. I like the King's Quest series. Princess Rosella is my favorite character. I like this game and KQ6 and KQ7. The games are such fun.
I like the beauty of them too. I am drawing fan art of the series. When I was younger I tried drawing papers of the royal family of Daventry. My drawing skills have greatly improved since then. I am swamped with art to work on. It will be a while before I can work on any King's Quest fan art.

I have played all 7 games and mask of eternity. I was disappointed with mask of eternity, but their was something I really liked about it. In the beginning video, Connor goes to greet his friend or girlfriend, whose name is Sarah. That's my name, and they even spelled it correctly! I know my name is very common and popular, I used to not like my name when I was a kid because there were so many other 'Sarahs' out there. But then I realized how beautiful my name is, I am very proud of what it means. The name 'Sarah' means 'princess.'

So, I am a princess! I had an obsession with princesses and fairytales, legends, folklore, mythology when I was a little girl. I later on became interested in dragons, and I insisted there were good "Christian' dragons, I thought I was a dragon named Seraphina Starfire. When I was really little I liked unicorns, pegasus and fairies. I collected my little ponies and barbie dolls. OK, the dragon thing started after I saw the movie 'Dragonheart'. Then I read "Dealing With Dragons', and the rest of the Enchanted Forest series, then I read Dragonlance. In King's Quest VII, there was a crystal dragon, and Etheria, I like the little flying sea horses and the beautiful flowers all over Etheria. I have always liked flowers.

The thing about dragons was stuborness. I became closer to God. I was raised southern Baptist, my parents took me to church, but more importantly they taught me right from wrong, how to behave, how to be kind and polite, how to love people and forgive them. I had to make the choice to reject 'magic' and to accept the biblical definition of dragons as evil and of Satan, Satan is described as a dragon in the Bible. Unicorns are mentioned in the King James version of the Bible, in modern versions they are described as 'wild ox.'

Any way, the history of fairies is cloudy, it is said during the war in heaven when Lucifer/Satan rebelled against the LordGod and took one-third of the angels with him, there were neutral angels, who were cast down to the earth, they became fairies. Actually, Satan is on the earth with great wrath seeking whom he may devour.

Unfortunately, God doesn't forgive fallen angels when they repent, I don't know why, that is God's will, but he does forgive people, I am very glad God gave me back my humanity.

Did you know there is a tropical bird called an Eastern Rosella? It is related to the Stanley Parakeet. I like beautiful birds with bright pretty colors. I've had pet parakeets and a cockatiel. They can be sweet little birds with good personalities. I am wary of bigger parrots like macaws and cockatoos. There is a major difference between cockatiels and cockatoos. They are totally different species. Cockatoos are big, usually white of pale peach, they had yellow crest feathers on their heads, peach cockatoos have peach head crests, I think they move them up and down according to their moods. They have big sharp gray/black beaks that look like they could take a finger off. Their scaly feet are dark, gray and black, with sharp claws.

Cockatiels are much smaller. They are usually yellow and gray, sometimes with white. usually they have a pattern of gray and yellow on their feathers on the back, wings and tail. They have a yellow head and yellow crest feathers, much smaller than cockatoos. Cockatiels have cute little orange circles on their cheeks, a yellow orange beak, and black eyes that are lively and friendly looking. My cockatiel liked to peck at shiny things, so did my parakeets/budgies. I think a lot of birds like shiny things. Sometimes my birds would give me 'bird kisses' little gentle pecks on my lips, nose and cheeks, if they were mad at me they would bite me, they didn't like to be petted that much. Sometimes my cockatiel like for me to rub her crest feathers, sometimes y budgies would let me pet their chests. Sometimes the birds would rub their soft feathers against my skin. THe birds also liked to peck and play with my glasses or any jewelry I was wearing. Little birds can be sweet pets, but they make such a mess! They poop everywhere, you have to clean their cage often, change the newspaper, (someone once said the only thing newspaper was good for is the bottom of the bird cage.) Clean up includes vaccuming or sweeping up the area around the cage, making sure your bird is healthy, it can be dificult to find a vet that is good with birds, is difficult to take care of aging senior birds. I've heard the big parrots live longer than people, so parrot owners have to put them in their will.

Now, about Rosella and birds, the Eastern Rosella is very pretty, it lives around New Zealand, not sure if it lives in Australia, Australia has some cool birds, cockatoos and cockatiels, parakeets, lorrikeets, a lot of pretty birds are from Australia and surrounding Pacific islands. Peacocks are very popular and have been taken all around the world, it is semi-domestic, there is a peacock on Genesta's island, and a cockatoo, and a swan, a lovebird. Maybe a sun conure, not sure. Swans are also semi-domestic and have been taken all over the world in parks and gardens. Aparently I'm not the only one that likes pretty birds.

As for ravens, they live in northern cold climates and hvve a lot of grim mythology associated with them, like death and war. The Vikings and Celts revered them as messengers of death, they deterinded how many would die in a battle, the raven in the Tower of London had their wings clipped so they could not leave, because if they did the British kingdom would fall. Ravens were associated with death goddesses and gods, A raven would be the perfect pet for sinister Lolotte.

Hi, I am new to Unicorn Tales. I really, really love the demo, it is so much fun! I have not played a computer or video game in a long time, the exception being a recently downloaded version of the original KQ4, perils of Rosella. It was fun, I like the point and click, then I found a game with the old type in words. I like the ones with icon browser menus. princess Rosella is my favorite member of the royal family of Daventry.. i first started playing the series when I was 15 I played king's Quest V, Absence Makes The Heart Go Yonder. I read the synopsis of the other games, I like games with good story plots to them. I also played KQ7, The Princeless Bride. King's Quest VII was lot of fun because of the colorful, pretty graphics that were Disney-like. I also like KQVI, which has a beautiful romantic story to it, It was really fun to play, very lively.

Ahem, about the demo, the graphics are attractive, I like the play making it more complicated, harder to do things. Made me think. In the past I wrote fan fiction stories about king's quest and drew some fan art. I need to color my recent drawings.

So, good demo, I really hope You all can make a great game out of this, keep moving forward!

That’s right, we’re still at work on this project. And I’m happy to say that it’s nearing completion. In our latest playable test build, the game was playable up to the climax, where Rosella finds herself in the belly of the beast. (No, I don’t mean the whale – I’m being metaphorical here. I mean Lolotte’s castle, or more specifically, Edgar’s room.) Of course, we did have to program in a few shortcuts, as there were a few bugs and missing models here and there. However, that’s going to change soon, in our next one.

This year…

- Rosella’s parents, Graham and Valanice, have had their models finished and some of Graham’s animations and talk portraits for the intro have been finished as well.
- Rosella’s models – both in her royal gown and her peasant outfit, have also been finalized and her talking portraits, walkcycles, and throne room animations for the intro have been completed as well. Lots of assorted animations during her stay in Tamir have also been completed.
- Genesta’s model has also been completed, along with some of her animations for the intro.
- Lolotte’s model is… partially finished, but still needs a head revamp.
- New backgrounds for Genesta and Lolotte’s bedrooms were completed.
- The witches’ models and some of their animations were completed.
- And finally, the ogre scene was revamped with some new animations and walkcycles for the ogre.

More animations will be coming in the new year, as well as a model for Rosella’s brother, Alexander, and a new model of Edgar. After that, all of the models will be done, and just a few little touches will need to be added in – such as the endings. Again, I won’t make any empty promises, but we believe that this means the game should be completed before the new year is over. Until then, on behalf of all of us at Unicorn Tales, we wish you the best of holidays and our undying gratitude for sticking with us all this time.

Until the next update, fare thee well!

Of course, with the good news, there is a bit of bad news as well. I’ll start with that. One certain artist of ours is unable to continue working on the project, due to mental health issues, which means we will need a new artist to finish our models of King Graham, Queen Valanice, and Prince Alexander. Our models of Genesta and the ogre will also need a bit of work as well. Fortunately, those models are partially finished, so they shouldn’t be too difficult to complete. As you may be well aware, most of those characters are also only present during the introduction and endings, so adding them will not be too high on our priorities list.

Despite that minor setback, however, said artist was able to complete models of Edgar, the ogress, Rosella in her royal gown, and a new better-looking mountain path leading to Lolotte’s castle. In addition, our other artists have done a great deal of work as well; including animations for one of the bad endings, backgrounds for the introduction and ending, and new icons with animations. We also have some new models for characters and inventory items that were previously missing from the game, and a new title screen.

Of course, we still have yet to implement some of those things, and there are still a few bugs to be worked out, but work will resume on the game next year. Yes, by that, I mean that we are taking a break until January of 2022. But not long after the new year comes along, we’ll be working on getting new things implemented into the game, which we’re hoping will include the introduction. Though, as I pointed out already, we will need someone to finish a few models for us before that objective can be completed.

With all that said, on behalf of all of us, I’d like to thank all of you for bearing with us for as long as you have. See you next year.

Hey, everybody! Has… has it really been over a year, since my last update announcement? Sorry about that.

Well, I’m here once again, to assure you all that the King’s Quest IV 3D remake project is still going forward. (No, really!) I myself, and other crew members, have actually played our current build and… while there are still a few bugs to be worked out, it is indeed fully playable. At least up to the climax of the story, that is. And yeah, it has taken us far longer than we would’ve preferred, but we have managed to get most of the hardest work out of the way.

And to you horror fans out there, our composer has produced some ambient sounds that will really enhance a certain scene in the game. In addition, we’ve also made it easier for Rosella to meet an untimely demise* at that point of the story; which was possible in the original, but quite difficult. Ah, yes, and let’s not forget the whole moon logic aspect of that scene - another thing that we’ve done some work to eliminate. Now Rosella will be given reasons to do what she does, rather than doing it on a whim.

*Speaking of Rosella’s untimely demises, I know I mentioned death pictures in the previous update, but its been brought to my attention that those would take quite a while to produce. So, in an attempt to cut down on production time, while still not just showing you a picture of Roberta telling you to be more careful next time, we’re going to have a generic death screen reminiscent of what Conquests of the Longbow would show, whenever Robin Hood screwed up. And just like in that screen, there will be commentary based on what Rosella did wrong.

One last thing I know you’re all wondering about, is voice acting. This is indeed a subject we’ve been discussing and while we haven’t made an official decision yet, we’ll likely release the game before implementing this feature. As I said, work on the game has taken far longer than we would’ve preferred and we’d hate to keep you all waiting for too much longer. But when we do get around to adding it in, we’ll be taking auditions from you the fans. Once we have enough voices, we’ll release an updated version to include the voices and update the credits to include the actors’ names.

I know it's not enough, but all I can give you at this point is my assurance that we have not given up on this game and that work is still being done on it. We appreciate you bearing with us as long as you have, and hope that you'll continue to do so until we are able to release the game; which will hopefully not be too much longer.
